Scaling the Mossy Timber
I followed my bright blue chalk trail straight off the concrete walkway and plunged right into the front yard lawn! Looming right at the edge of the turf was the massive, gnarly root of an old maple tree twisting above the soil like a timber rollercoaster. I took a running leap, planted my bare feet firmly on the rough bark ridge, and caught my balance against a plush cushion of green moss! Wedged between two bark crevices, I discovered a papery brown helicopter seed. I hitched up my backpack, gripped the thin wing of the seed, and gave it a high-spin toss down the slope—it twirled like an airplane propeller all the way to the grass!
