The Acorn Cap
I took two slow steps down from the porch onto the brick walkway. The red bricks felt solid and a little rough beneath my shoes. Right along the grassy border, an acorn cap lay tilted in a patch of green moss. It looked just like a small wooden bowl. I knelt down with care so I wouldn't crush the moss. Using both hands, I nudged the cap until it balanced upright on the flat edge of a brick. A tiny ant wandered by, tapped the wooden rim with its antennae, and walked on. It felt nice to leave the little cup resting steady in the sun.
