Freeing the Chimes
A cluster of long silver chime pipes hung completely silent beneath the pavilion roof! I looked up and spotted the trouble right away. The round wooden striker had flipped sideways, wedging its suspension cord tight against the longest metal tube. It couldn't make a single peep! I scrambled onto the sturdy cedar picnic table and balanced on my yellow boots. Tucking my black microphone securely under one arm, I reached up with both plush hands to grab the wooden disc. With one firm, patient lift, I untangled the cord and let it drop free. Clink-clang-chime! A sparkling burst of bright notes echoed across the pavilion rafters. The breezeway has its song back!
