The Cardboard Runway
I tapped my way out through the cracked screen door, determined to see past the hallway. The wide stone porch felt huge. Right by the step, a stiff cardboard delivery envelope leaned against the riser at a gentle tilt. A perfect ramp. I tapped the top edge with my foot. Solid. I climbed to the crest, leaned forward, and let go. Whoosh! I slid down the slick surface, zipping across the slope and landing with a crisp thud on the woven coconut mat. My folds didn't even bend. That was much faster than walking!
