A Controlled Glide
The glossy postcard lay face down near the entryway runner, its slick coated surface resting against the polished oak. I tested the edge with my sneaker; it slid forward... with almost zero resistance. After checking the clear stretch of hallway ahead, I stepped squarely onto the card, keeping my knees bent to lower my center of gravity. Bracing one hand against the baseboard, I gave the wood molding a firm, measured push. The card broke away instantly, gliding in absolute silence across the floorboards. The draft from the doorway caught my collar as I sailed past the shoe rack, coasting a full eight paces before coming to an upright stop. Remarkable... how little friction is needed.
