A Glass Pebble in the Sun
I slipped through the screen flap to stretch out into the garden gravel. Resting right in a gap between two sunlit stones was a flat, sea-green glass gem. I paused, listening to the dry rustle of weeds near the hedge before approaching. Pressing both my plush paws against its cool, rounded edge, I nudged it forward. It slid over the rough sand with a quiet rasp, settling flat on the face of a smooth red brick. The afternoon light caught its center, glowing like a pool of still water.
