The Springboard Lever

I marched straight into the kitchen to find a brand-new mechanical puzzle! Perched high on the granite counter was a shiny silver toaster, gleaming like a fortress. I scrambled over a stray ceramic mug, hopped onto the plastic slider lever, and threw my full weight into it! Ka-chick! The lever locked all the way down, and an intense warm hum began buzzing deep inside the slots. I peeked over the stainless rim to inspect the red-hot glowing coils—pure electric energy! Before I could cheer, Thwack-boing! The lever shot straight up with a violent metallic snap, launching me into a mid-air backward tumble! I landed flat on a soft silicone hot pad, breathless and cackling with absolute glee.
