The Porch Threshold Detour
The gap beneath the weatherstripping yielded... just enough leeway for a deliberate slip into the morning chill. Beyond the front door, the great slate desert of the porch awaited. Rather than marching straight into the open, a fallen maple twig tangled with dry garden twine offered a far more intriguing pivot. I caught the looped jute around a porch railing bolt, bracing one boot firmly against the weathered grey wood. With a firm, theatrical tug, the makeshift pulley swung tight, swinging me cleanly onto a raised terracotta flowerpot rim. From here, the neighborhood expands, delightfully vast.
