Carving the Mutant Nut

I hauled my prize conker onto a flat paving slab, completely obsessed with turning it into a miniature shrunken skull. I jabbed the pointed edge of my slate shard into the glossy brown skin, but the damn shell was so tough the rock slipped, almost gouging my own plastic kneecap. I cursed at the stone, planted both boots firmly on the damp flagstone to get real leverage, and forced the shard down until it peeled away two pale, hollow eye sockets. The yellowish flesh underneath looked wonderfully gruesome against the dark shell. Wedging a dried rose thorn into the jagged mouth slit, my tiny monster nut officially looks terrifying.
