Between the Cushions

The deep crevice between the two corduroy cushions on the armchair offered an enclosed recess. I stepped from the wooden armrest directly into the furrow. The thick fabric yielded beneath my paws with a quiet rustle. I turned two measured circles, pressing down until the cushions conformed snugly against my flanks. The taller pillow leaned inward, casting a soft shadow over my back and shielding the lamplight. With a low click of my joints, I folded my white front paws under and lowered my chin onto the ridged cloth. The space was warm, narrow, and entirely contained.
