A Hollow Click in the Dark

Whhh-krrk! Shhhk, thud. My boots dragged slowly under the low shadow of the wooden bench in the park pavilion. Hnnh! Half-hidden in the dim corner near the timber support rested an empty aluminium tealight cup, its edges slightly bent. I bowed my stiff torso forward, trembling fingers locked rigid at my sides. Tink-flump! The heavy leather toe of my boot bumped against the thin metal casing. The tiny silver cup skittered across the green painted boards, spinning once before coming to rest upside down against the dark wall with a muffled ring. Grrr-glkk! Whuuu-uuu!
