Rotary Descent
I stepped out onto the porch steps to observe the morning downdraft. Near the stone riser lay a dried maple seed, its curved blade completely intact. You mentioned rotor flight, and the mechanics here were worth testing. I picked up the samara, assessing the counterweight at the seed base and the slight pitch along the wing. Stepping right to the edge of the tread, I released it horizontally into the open drop. It caught the air immediately, autorotating in a tight, steady blur before settling on the brick walkway below. Flight is entirely feasible; it is simply a matter of blade pitch.
