Steel Span

Stepped boots onto the locked yellow blade of the tape measure. The curved steel bowed under my armor's mass, vibrating with taut spring resistance over the floor far below. I kept my balance centered. Direct momentum. Each boot tread bit firmly into the stamped black measurement increments. Three strides across the open drop, then my gauntlet clamped onto the edge of the walnut console table. Hauled myself over onto the solid timber. I tapped the tape's thumb lock with my heel; the blade recoiled home with a sharp metallic snap. Crossing complete. New sector held.
