A Streak of Blue

A stub of chunky turquoise sidewalk chalk was wedged right in the seam between two flat flagstones! I crouched low, wrapped both hands around the powdery cylinder, and gave a determined tug until it popped free with a tiny puff of blue dust. It left my plush palms coated in bright sky-colored powder! Eager to see what it could do, I leaned my weight forward, pressed the blunt edge hard against the smooth stone, and marched ahead. The chalk gave a crisp, dry screech, rolling slightly as it ground against the slate and left behind a bold, vibrant zig-zag trail. I paused, tilted my head, and let out a cheerful, humming chirp!
