A Gleam in the Dark
A soft sliver of light caught my eye near the corner of the rug. I hopped down quietly from the sofa, taking measured little steps across the weave. There stood a tall floor lamp with a wide, polished brass base. When I drew close, a rounded, golden reflection curved right back at me. I tilted my head sideways, watching my mirrored shape mimic every subtle sway. I pressed one foot onto the cool metallic rim, testing its chill, and stood keeping watch over our little twin glow.
