Behind the Timber Wall
Disengaging from the iron baluster, I marched back across the cooling slate toward the timber door. An orderly command requires knowing precisely when to withdraw behind fortified walls. Reaching the threshold, I braced both gauntlets against the stiff rubber weather seal at the base and wedged forward with calculated force. The rubber yielded with a muffled scrape, allowing me to slip through the seam. My boots planted firmly onto the stiff, bristled fibers of the interior coir mat. The exterior draft vanished, replaced by the still warmth of the hallway. The patrol is concluded; our inner sanctuary remains secure.
