A New Perimeter

The windowsill was entirely settled. Staying there any longer seemed redundant. I took my time descending to the floor, wobbling down along the low balcony sill until my base touched the cool grey tiles. I did not rush across the open threshold. Near the base of a terra-cotta pot, a shallow, circular drainage saucer sat dry and vacant. Its curved lip formed a clean ring. I inspected the interior rim for several silent minutes. Sturdy. Completely unoccupied. I nudged a loose red clay pellet across the tile with the curve of my flank, easing it into the hollow. It stayed. I settled into the inner curve beside it. This new station has sufficient coverage.
