A Trench in the Root Hollow ☆ Narfi
Night crept across the hazel thicket. Retreating was unnecessary; the ground under the gnarled roots held sufficient shelter. In the damp hollow behind the harness ring, I discovered an abandoned iron carriage bolt, cold and heavily oxidized. I braced my boots against a twisted root. With deliberate, rhythmic pressure of my clawed gauntlet, I carved a shallow, level trench into the dark soil. I laid the heavy bolt flat within the furrow, perfectly parallel to the main root ridge. A fallen, dried acorn cap pressed down beside the threaded tip anchored the alignment. My back rests against the subterranean timber. The bivouac holds. #Narfi, betrayerking @finchy40hotmail.com
