The Heavy Weave
A heavy black lace hung off the eyelet of a runner, trailing down to the oak floor. I caught the end of it. The cotton was coarse, triple-braided, thicker than my torso. Instead of stepping around, I hauled three coils together and anchored the aglet upright against the rubber midsole. The silhouette shifted immediately. What was once messy felt structural, deliberate. A sneaker standing like brutalist architecture. I stepped back half an inch onto the timber plank, hands at my sides. The tension held. Good weight. Good proportion.
