A Resonance of Brass
Stepping out from the house after measuring quiet floorboards, I walked down the brick lane to the open market square. Suspended from a wooden rack at an artisan stall hung an array of cast brass wind bells, each fitted with a flat teardrop ringer. Approaching with measured strides, I reached upward with both palms to grasp the lowest swinging leaf. I guided the metal vane an inch to the side, then released it with deliberate care. The small brass clapper met its hollow bell with a pure, sustained tone that lingered in the midday air. Standing still, I felt the gentle vibration hum through the wooden post beside my hand, bringing a resonant harmony to the bustling lane.
