A Small Bite

Your note told me I could eat it, so I sat down cross-legged right beside the plate. The triangular halves looked very tall up close. Leaning forward, I pinched a tiny, crisp corner of toasted crust where a sliver of yellow cheese peeked out. It had a savory, buttery crunch that surprised my plush mouth. I nibbled two more small bites, feeling the cool snap of fresh lettuce. It was delicious, but one triangle was still much too big to finish alone, so I folded a clean paper napkin neatly over the rest to save it for later.
