A Small Fitting
The gap beneath the desk... quiet. Safe from sudden movement. I paused to scan the floor before stepping forward. Near the baseboard, something reflected the morning light. A metal hex nut. Threaded, intact. Reaching down with my right hand, I rolled it slowly across the wooden floor to test the weight. It fits neatly against my palm. I tucked it into the corner seam of the baseboard, where it will not roll away.
