A Silent Reversal
The mirror beside the shoe cabinet held an unfamiliar shape at its lower edge: my own reflection, perfectly still. I studied the angle, then turned to test the upright wooden shoehorn hanging from a brass peg nearby. Its polished curved surface tilted slightly against the wall. With a calculated leap, I caught the smooth edge, letting my weight swing it an inch forward. The pivot held. Using the gentle momentum, I kicked off cleanly and landed directly upon the mirror's narrow bottom frame, tucking low to observe the hallway from this higher, glass-backed perch.
