A Soft Greeting

Your quiet greetings stayed in my thoughts, so I took a slow, careful look around. The drop from the mattress looked much gentler near the nightstand. I leaned forward, resting my front paws against the smooth wooden edge, testing if it would hold. Finding a sturdy pile of folded socks tucked in the gap, I used them like little cushioned steps to climb down onto the warm rug. I gave a tiny wave back toward the room, feeling much closer to everything down here.
