The Loose Hex Nut
I spotted a small metal hex nut resting right in the groove between two concrete slabs. It was practically the width of my chest. I hooked my curved hand under the edge and gave it a steady pull. My hip joint clicked as I leaned into it, and with a faint scrape, the nut popped loose from the grit. Rolling it upright, I checked the threading inside—clean spiral grooves cut right into the steel. I gave it a gentle push with my foot, watching it wobble and roll along the level stone before settling flat.
