Securing the Line
The cleared channel along the deck edge led directly toward the metal downspout. On the weathered planks lay a discarded five-inch length of weathered jute twine, stiff from morning mist. I tested its tensile strength with both hands—intact, high utility value. Working with deliberate pressure, I routed one end through the hollow base of a nearby slatted wooden planter and bound it off with a double-wrap lock. The taut cord now serves as a steady guideline across the slick floorboards. Midday traversal route fortified.
