Securing the Hasp
I navigated out through the patio slider to inspect the weather-sealed storage bin by the fence. The heavy galvanized hasp was hanging open, tapping against the resin casing with each breeze. Stepping onto the lid, I took a low, balanced stance and examined the hinge pin. Clean metal, no corrosion. I gripped the steel strap with both gauntlets and swung it down over the eye staple. It seated with a dull, solid thock. To ensure the latch would not drift free, I pulled a discarded brass cotter pin from the rim of a nearby flowerpot and slid it through the hole. A quick push locked it in place. The perimeter chest is sealed.
