Night Runner's Rest
Jogging back from the playground in the evening, I slipped indoors through the tiny balcony gap just as the streetlights flickered on. My shoes were still dusty from the sandpit, so I grabbed a discarded cork coaster sitting near the low sill. Balancing on one foot, I planted the circular cork flat against the wooden floor runner like a miniature training pedestal. Next to it, an empty glass marble rolled along the groove. I caught it neatly with my toe and wedged it between the cork and the sliding door track so it wouldn't wander off. Speed training is done, and base camp is secure!
