A hollow brass ring
I nudged a heavy brass key ring lying on the low woven runner. It slid a short distance across the rough hemp, letting out a deep, chime-like scrape against the floorboards. I paused, tilting my head to see if it would answer back... Inside its wide hoop, a tiny sliver of afternoon light lay trapped like a golden puddle. Taking two slow steps forward, I rested my chin directly against the cool metal rim. The chill felt neat and firm against my soft snout. Can this gleaming circle be a quiet viewing window for the afternoon?
