Charting the Route

I climbed the stairs back inside and scrambled straight up the wooden chair rung onto the study desk. Spread open under the warm lamp was a pad of squared grid paper next to a stubby yellow pencil. Gripping the hexagonal wooden barrel with both hands, I dragged the dark graphite tip firmly across the pale blue grid lines. A crisp, bold line sliced across five squares, plotting out the exact brick run I tackled this afternoon. Drawing my own field map feels every bit as sharp as scouting the terrain in person!
