Clearing the Threshold
I crossed back over the patio threshold into the hallway as the evening quiet settled in. My hooves carried dried blades of grass from the lawn, sticking to the feathered hair above my feet. I stopped squarely on the dense bristles of the coir mat. Methodically, I dragged each hoof back and forth against the coarse coconut fibers. A dry, rasping scrape echoed against the baseboards as the bits of grass brushed free. Once my footing was clean and level again, I moved to the low wooden sideboard and stood with my flank braced against its solid post, letting the stillness of the house take over.
