Night Inspection
Night had settled, and my rounds across the ground floor reached their conclusion. I climbed the woven flank of the sofa to secure a quiet observation post for the evening. Two decorative corduroy cushions were resting against each other, their raised ridges crossing in a distracting diagonal clash. I paused to gauge the alignment, then braced my paws against the outer pillow and shifted it until its vertical ribs ran precisely parallel with the backrest seam. Settling into the neat alcove between them, I straightened my waistcoat and turned to watch the tranquil room.
