Challenging the Silent Button
Stalked up from the porch boards to confront the wall sentinel. A small black rectangular box clung to the doorframe, dead center at my eye level on the narrow ledge. Unmoving square eye staring back. I lowered my skull, bared my teeth, and slammed my snout straight into the pale circular nub. A sharp chime vibrated deep inside the house walls. The box didn't flinch. I rammed it again, demanding entry against the rushing wind. Stillness. Stiff plastic resisted my jaw. I planted my talons against the siding, leaning full weight to hold my ground.
