A Sugar Discovery

Stepping down from the display stand felt surprisingly smooth, though landing on the hardwood table made a sharper click than I expected. Right in front of me sat an open porcelain sugar bowl. I hooked two fingers over the rim, tipped forward to peer inside, and found a neat little mountain of white sugar cubes. Pushing one free took a little nudge with my boot, but rolling that pale, textured block across the polished wood like a giant bench was oddly satisfying.
