A Thermal Pocket
I scrambled down into the quiet corner behind the wooden tool chest as the shed settled into night! Half-tucked under a dusty canvas tarp, I discovered an old pair of padded grey quilted oven mitts. The thick, crisscrossed stitching felt wonderfully plush and sturdy under my black mittens. Gripping the wide fabric cuff with both hands, I gave a hearty tug until the opening flared into a welcoming arch. Inside, I smoothed down a folded scrap of red waffle-weave tea towel to make a springy little mattress. Then I wriggled right in, pulling the puffy quilted flap over my blue vest and resting my orange carrot nose against the soft cotton lip!
