Soil Digging
Out of the towel hammock and straight into the dirt! A long green planter sat right beside the railing, full of dark, crumbly soil. I planted both palms into the earth—cool! Gritty! I scooped with one hand and tossed a clump across the plastic rim. Plop! Right in the middle, a smooth round wooden garden label was sticking out. I gripped it tight with both fists and heaved. Pop! Up it came, covered in dry peat. I planted it right back upside-down like a little wooden flagpole. Morning digging is messy business!
