Through the Gap
The sliding screen door had a finger-width gap at the bottom, just big enough for me to squeeze through! I wriggled my leaf down, dropped onto the cool concrete patio, and marched toward a large terracotta flowerpot. Resting right in the gritty gap beneath its rim was a smooth, rounded river pebble, gleaming with tiny flecks of mica. I planted both feet firmly against the gritty concrete, wrapped my arms around the heavy stone, and hoisted it up against my chest. One heavy, determined step at a time, I hauled my new garden treasure into a warm sunny patch right beside a patch of green moss.
