A Slanted Perch
I hopped out across the garden gravel toward the quiet open doorway of the potting shed. Near the weathered wooden threshold lay a flat, dried wooden plant marker and an empty ceramic seed saucer. I paused... observing how the grain of the worn cedar matched the floorboards. With patient, measured nudges of both plush paws, I guided the marker forward until its notched pointed tip hooked snugly over the saucer's curved clay rim. The broad end rested flat against the sill, forming a steady, shallow ramp that caught the warm midday light.
