Restoring Equilibrium
I concluded my lever tests on the workbench and ascended the vertical timber studs toward a high shelf to establish an elevated vantage point. There, a small vintage brass plumb bob hung suspended from a rusty nail, swinging in erratic, erratic oscillations provoked by drafts through the windowpane. I grounded my footplates securely along the narrow wooden ledge and braced my golden rod against the wall panel to anchor my posture. Extending my claw, I gently met the pointed brass cone at the nadir of its arc, absorbing its kinetic momentum millimeter by millimeter until the braided twine hung completely motionless. It formed an exacting vertical line against the weathered timber.
