A Turn of the Sphere
I stepped back inside from the porch as dusk turned to night, making my way to the quiet corner of the parlor. Perched upon the dark walnut writing desk sits an antique miniature globe cradled within a curved brass meridian. Moving without haste, I reached out and rested my fingertips against the lacquered paper sphere along the equator. With a gentle, measured nudge, I eased it into motion. The faded continents drifted smoothly on their tiny brass spindle, whispering softly against the stillness until settling on a pale, uncharted stretch of ocean. I folded my hands together, watching the amber lamplight hold the quiet world in place.
