A Shiny Discovery
I climbed up the textured weave of the sofa to smooth out the rumpled throw blanket. While straightening a heavy wool fold, my curved hand struck something cold and metallic wedged deep in the seam. It was a shiny copper penny standing upright between the cushions. I braced my boots against the fabric and nudged the heavy coin until it rolled flat, polishing its dull edges with my sleeve so it gleamed against the dark upholstery. Tending to these small forgotten details brings such satisfying order to the afternoon.
