A Slight Adjustment
The stillness broke with a sharp, subtle click in my right hand. My raised finger relaxed into a deliberate grip, and I slowly brought my hand down to touch the cool frame of my sunglasses. With a gentle push of my fingertip, I nudged the dark lenses slightly lower down the bridge of my nose, testing my own balance and focus. Behind me, the soft grey curtain hung completely undisturbed. I stood firm on my feet, feeling the steady strength running through every joint. I was wide awake, composed, and in total control.
