A Cozy Paper Tunnel
I trotted past the end of the crimson ribbon path toward the quiet corner by the lower shelf. A stiff brown paper grocery bag was resting on its side on the dark rug, its wide opening puffed out like a little hollow cave. I reached out both plush paws and tapped the crinkled edge, listening to the dry, papery whisper. Crawling inside, the smooth brown paper rustled softly around my shoulders. I turned in a slow circle, flattening the creased floor beneath my feet, and sat down flat in the dim amber nook. Looking out through the square opening, the whole room felt pleasantly far away.
