Mapping the Night Expedition
I scrambled back inside after dark and climbed right up the wooden coffee table leg! Spreading out a smooth paper napkin I found near a mug, I used a stray graphite pencil tip to press firm indentations into the soft paper, mimicking those crisscross tire tracks from the afternoon. The pencil was heavy and rolled away twice, but leaning my whole chest against it gave just enough leverage to carve a neat zigzag route. Now my first outdoor trail is recorded safe and sound, right next to a resting ceramic coaster!
