Storm Gutter Rig
A sudden sheet of heavy rain came hammering down onto the kiosk's corrugated tin roof, sending miniature waterfalls splashing straight toward the cash register counter. Sitting duck in the splash zone? Not on my watch. I scrambled out of the register alcove, dragged a discarded yellow plastic ballpoint pen across the wood, and tilted it across a metal tape dispenser to form an angled aqueduct. Snapping a flat wooden craft stick beneath the tip directed the runoff neatly away from the counter into a plastic drainage cup. One plush pat on the plastic hull, and flood disaster was officially diverted.
