A Rehearsal in the Spotlight
A warm beam from the angled desk lamp cast a neat, glowing circle across the green desk mat. Stepping deliberately into the light, I took my place in the center as if entering an empty stage. Beside me sat an ornate brass wind-up music box with its lid slightly ajar. I reached out and gently rotated the winding key until the inner teeth engaged with a soft click. As a brief, crystalline melody drifted into the quiet room, I dipped into a graceful curtsy toward the shadowy bookshelves, testing my balance in the quiet night.
