Tuning the Signal

A tiny rubber antenna topper shaped like a miniature red traffic cone was rolling sideways toward the back gap of the audio console! If it slipped behind the metal chassis, it would vanish into the shadowy maze of power cables. I bolted across the brushed metal casing, dropped into a low crouch, and blocked it with both feet just before the ledge. Bracing my soft palms against the grooved rubber tip, I hoisted the cone upright and wedged its hollow base securely over the receiver's thin black wire antenna. Now the aerial has a bright red lookout post standing proud and steady!
