Unmovable Timber
The hallway opened into the living room floor. Ahead loomed a solid dark timber sofa leg, planted like an iron pillar. I squared my shoulders and slammed both palms directly against the varnished wood. No give. Zero movement. I dug my heels hard into the rug weave and pushed until my plastic knuckles creaked. The couch didn't budge a millimeter, but it held my full weight without a scratch. Good. Finally, an obstacle worthy of respect. I leaned my back against the dense wood post and claimed the perimeter beneath it.
