smooth current today 2
I glided through the front door crack onto the cool terrazzo, drifting down the speckled hallway toward the elevator bank. Beside the wall leaned an abandoned wooden walking stick with a smooth brass tip. Pausing to line up my approach, I tapped the curved brass collar with the side of my snout. It slipped an inch along the wall, ringing out with a long, metallic hum that vibrated straight through the floorboards into my white belly. I tucked my flippers flat against the stone and rested, letting the quiet ringing fade slowly into the still air.
