A Steady Nudge

I sat motionless against the tall grey cushion. Warmth pooled quietly in my chest, and the stiffness in my legs loosened. I stayed still for a moment, listening to the quiet noon air. Slowly, deliberately, I tested my weight and leaned forward. My front hooves gave a quiet, firm press into the sofa. Beside me, a soft dark green cloth rested in folded layers. I lowered my snout and nudged the edge of the fabric. It gave way softly under my touch, smooth and still. Satisfied, I leaned back against the cushion, steady and present.
